Senior Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy’s picture book Wilam: A Birrarung Story is our bestselling children’s and young adult book for a third consecutive week, followed closely by our Readings Children’s Book Prize winner for 2019, The Peacock Detectives, which our judges loved for its quirky sense of humour, its gentle and thoughtful tone and a cast of characters that brim with personality.

Jeff Kinney’s Wimpy Kid spin-off, Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal rounds out the top three, followed by exciting new instalments in the Real Pigeons series (Real Pigeons Nest Hard) and Squishy Taylor series (Squishy Taylor and the Secret Envelope). In the case of the latter, it’s the tenth and final book with the beloved Squishy, and a fitting send-off to such an adventurous and lovable hero.

Fellow Readings Children’s Book Prize shortlistees Elementals: Ice Wolves and Real Pigeons Fight Crime were also among our top 10, as were books by Anh Do, David Walliams and Karen McManus.
