Work Experience at Readings

Applications are now open for secondary school students aged 15 and over wishing to participate in the Readings Work Experience programme in 2017.

We will be offering a limited number of one week placements at our shops as follows:

Carlton: May, June and July Hawthorn: May and July St Kilda: May and July Doncaster: May

As a community focused organisation, Readings is committed to sharing its passion and knowledge for books, music and film. By offering places to local secondary school students, Readings hopes to encourage and develop interests in these areas and provide an environment to discover new and exciting Australian and international talent.

Your week: During your week at Readings you will be involved in various facets of the business. Our aim is to provide a broad understanding of the operations of book/CD/DVD retailing. This may include: learning more about the children’s book section, an introduction to inventory databases, internet researching, shelving and visual merchandising, customer service, receiving, as well as opportunities to work with senior staff and supporting departments.

How to apply: Please outline why you chose Readings for your work experience opportunity. We would also like you to pick three books you have enjoyed and write briefly about why you selected them. Please include the preferred dates and shop location for your placement, as well as your own contact details. We also require the name, address and phone number of the school you are attending, and the name of your school contact.

Because placements are limited we are unable to guarantee that all applicants will be successful.
