When employment opportunities arise, our Managers look to engage enthusiastic retailers who share our passion for books, music and film, who can demonstrate a strong customer service focus, and who are keen to share their product knowledge.

We’re fortunate to receive many unsolicited applications for employment which means, when employment opportunities do come up, our Managers are generally able to take on people with bookselling or other relevant industry experience.

Part Time/Full Time

Readings is an independent retailer of books, music and more, with seven bricks and mortar shops and a busy e-commerce website operating in Melbourne. Readings was awarded Book Retailer of the Year at the 2021 Australian Book Industry Awards.

We are seeking a Visual Art & Design Buyer for the Readings Carlton shop. This is a specialist role that has responsibility for inventory management of the Art & Design categories and customer service duties at the Carlton Shop.

The position is available either part time (4 days per week) or full time (5 days per week) and includes a permanent 9am – 5pm Saturday shift, and based at Readings Carlton, 309 Lygon St, Carlton.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

This role requires specialist Art & Design knowledge and retail experience. Book industry knowledge and buying experience is ideal, however those with relevant retail experience, a strong knowledge of the Visual Arts world and relationships within this area are encouraged to apply.
