Angela Crocombe, The Readings Foundation Coordinator, shares an update on how the foundation has been supporting literacy in communities around Australia.

Children’s libraries update

The libraries of children’s book curated by The Readings Foundation for Next Steps Australia, one of our grant recipients and charitable partners, have now been delivered to domestic violence shelters to help support the families that come through their doors. In total, we’ve set up seven libraries full of children’s books in shelters around Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Kara Family Violence Service thanked The Readings Foundation and Next Steps Australia, saying:

‘Providing books to children who have experienced trauma is vital because stories offer comfort, understanding, and hope. Through relatable characters and gentle narratives, books help children process emotions, build resilience, and feel less alone. They also create safe opportunities for our Family Violence Practitioners to start healing conversations, making books powerful tools for emotional recovery … Your support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children affected by family violence.’

Through The Readings Foundation grants, we are so grateful that we can make a small difference to support women and children going through some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Indigenous Literacy Day

Indigenous Literacy Day falls on Wednesday 3 September this year and, as always, Readings is keen to showcase the incredible work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). Read about how we'll be supporting ILF and how you can join us in making an impact here.
