The longlist for the 2018 Australian Literature Society (ALS) Gold Medal has been announced.

The longlisted titles are:

• Common People by Tony Birch
• A Long Way from Home by Peter Carey
• The Life to Come by Michelle de Kretser
• The Agonist by Shastra Deo
• The Last Man in Europe by Dennis Glover
• Gwen by Goldie Goldbloom
• The Last Garden by Eva Hornung
• The Choke by Sofie Laguna
• Hinterland by Steven Lang
• The Passage of Love by Alex Miller
• Border Districts by Gerald Murnane

The ALS Gold Medal is presented annually by the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) for a ‘work of outstanding literary merit’ published in the previous calendar year.
