Two terrific and provocative new YA reads from Australian authors top last week’s bestsellers list: Justine Larbalestier imagines a psychopathic sister in My Sister Rosa, and Kirsty Eagar takes a funny and honest look at modern hook-up culture Summer Skin. Another bestselling book for YA readers is Sara Barnard’s debut, Beautiful Broken Things, which movingly explores mental health and female friendship.

Our list also includes two books for tween readers: Rebecca Stead’s When You Reach Me and Leanne Hall’s Iris and the Tiger. The latter is our Children’s Book of the Month, and you can read why our staff love it here.

And of course, the big news for children’s books last week was the announcement of Leigh Hobbs as the new Australian Children’s Laureate! Four of his books appear on our bestsellers list, and you can read more about his appointment here.
