The Readings Prize has been celebrating outstanding new Australian writing since The New Australian Fiction Prize was first awarded in 2014. We’re incredibly proud of the impact we’ve had as champions of emerging authors in that time. In 2026, we will be making some changes to how the prize operates, but we’ll still be focused on supporting debut and emerging authors and offering rich, varied reads to our community. See more about the changes here.

The 2026 shortlist for The Readings New Australian Fiction Prize will be announced in September and the winner in October. The winning author will be also be featured in the lineup for A Day in Carlton in November.
