Seminar One – Down to the Sentence: Developing Style in Prose Writing
Where, exactly, does our prose begin? Is ‘voice’ a given or a choice? Many writers agree that literature begins at the sentence. If a piece of prose is an experience of another mind, then each sentences reveals the contours of a consciousness. We might even say that all characters, all narratives and all themes come from the sentence.
In this literary seminar, we’ll discuss the sentences of contemporary powerhouses Garielle Lutz, Lucia Berlin and Lesley Nneka Arimah. We’ll discuss, dissect, disagree and divert our gaze to the moment the pen hits the paper–just there, and not a step further.
Open to all writers, at any stage of the process. Come to one session, or come to all!
Tickets are $75 per person, per session. The seminar runs for 2 hours, from 10am to 12pm.
Spaces are limited. Please book here.
