Haydn: Violin Concertos, Carmignola

Specialising in baroquemusic, Giuliano Carmignolahas won greatacclaim for his numerousrecordings on Archiv. Thistime, his period-sensitiveapproach is brought to bear on music ofthe early classical period – the violinconcertos of Haydn. These concertos, dating from the 1760s – relatively early inthe composer’s career – are not all thatoften heard, and these recordings might betheir perfect advocate. The Orchestre desChamps-Élysées, too, are renowned fortheir performances on period instruments– and the ensemble’s transparent sound isa perfect accompaniment to Carmignola’swonderful, clear tone. The sound is bold, clear and bursting with vitality. Highlyrecommended.
