Haydn Violin Concertos

Carmignola Guiliano

Catalogue # 4778774

Following his critically acclaimed recording of all the Mozart concertos, Giuliano Carmignola fulfills his long-held wish to record the unjustly neglected violin concertos of Joseph Haydn. Carmignola’s technical precision, disciplined musicality and gorgeous tone bring every one of the composer’s intentions to vivid life. His musical collaborators here, the remarkable Orchestre des Champs-Élysées − known for performing repertoire from Haydn to Mahler on period instruments − makes an ideal partner.

Haydn:
Violin Concerto No. 1 in C major, Hob.VIIa:1
Violin Concerto No. 3 in A major, Hob.VIIa:3 ‘Melker Konzert’
Violin Concerto No. 4 in G major, Hob.VIIa:4

Review

Specialising in baroquemusic, Giuliano Carmignolahas won greatacclaim for his numerousrecordings on Archiv. Thistime, his period-sensitiveapproach is brought to bear on music ofthe early classical period – the violinconcertos of Haydn. These concertos, dating from the 1760s – relatively early inthe composer’s career – are not all thatoften heard, and these recordings might betheir perfect advocate. The Orchestre desChamps-Élysées, too, are renowned fortheir performances on period instruments– and the ensemble’s transparent sound isa perfect accompaniment to Carmignola’swonderful, clear tone. The sound is bold, clear and bursting with vitality. Highlyrecommended.
