Beethoven Violin Concerto Romances
Mutter Anne Sophie
Judi Mitchell reviews
Anne-Sophie Mutter had already been performing as a soloist for two years when she first recorded Beethovens Violin Concerto with her mentor Karajan at the age of sixteen. She has finally returned to what she calls a ‘cathedral of a concerto’ twenty-three years later, with a wealth of experience and maturity.
Beethovens concerto is considered by many to be the most difficult in the repertoire, but Mutter plays with an effortlessness and grace that belies its complexities. Her sensitivity and compassion for Beethoven and his music is beautifully expressed and gives us a moving glimpse into his tormented life. A fantastic recording.
