Why we love to read

Here we share some of the fantastic entries to our Why I Love To Read competition. Thank you to everyone who sent one in!

Congratulations to our winner!

I love to read and draw more than anything else in the whole world. Sometimes I do both of them at the same time! I love to read stories about Japan, where I was born. I like to learn about Manga and how to draw Manga. And I love Alice Miranda stories. When Alice Miranda went to Japan it was the best! I thought she was like me! Reading has taught me a lot and I would be so sad if I didn’t have it to do.

Here are some of our other favourite entries!

I love to read so I can learn more about things.
by Angus, age 5

I love to read because when I sit down with my book, i feel like I am diving into a new world. When I really like the book, I will ‘be’ the character, in my mind. I will cry with the character, laugh with the character and live the book with the character. I have been reading books ever since i was a little girl, and have enjoyed them every step of the way. I love books from Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities to J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Reading is my favourite thing in the whole wide world.
by Nioka, age 12

I love to read because it takes me away to wonderous places in my imagination! P.S. It’s my favourite hobby.
by Aneirin, age 10

I like to read because you get to find other experiences that others have had or experiences that are just a cool idea. Plus it’s fun to read but that’s just a bonus.
by Benjamin, age 12

It’s a way to travel the world without a passport. It’s interesting to enter the mind of the author’s imagination. I can laugh, cry, taste, smell, touch, see, feel and hear just by turning a page.
by Nichola, age 12

My name is Emma, I’m 12 and LOVE reading. Most of my spare time I spend reading books. I love the way that the author has the power to transport other people to new and different worlds. Pretty much every week I’m reading a new book!! When I was younger my parents used to try to get me to read now they try to get me to stop! Reading is like a vitamin, without books, where would we be now? I simply can’t stop reading. I obsess over books 24/7.
by Emma, age 12

I like to read because there is an adventure inside my imagination. I am reading Charlotte’s Web and I want all the animals to be happy and kind to each other.
by Amelie, age 8

I enjoy going to other worlds and meeting new characters.
by Finn, age 9

I read for enjoyment and to take my mind off the world. I love reading because it takes you to your own little world inside the book. It is controlled by the passage of the book, but the visioning is your part. I enjoy the way the words shape in my mind, sometimes I feel I am able to see the book in front of me, if it is a good book. Sometimes I read for hours on end without realising!
