The longlist for the 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction has been announced.

Martha Lane Fox, Chair of the judging panel, commented that many of the novels: “Ahead of the longlist meeting I was anxious that the negotiations between judges might be as arduous as Brexit, but it was an absolute delight to pick our final 16 books. Entries for the Prize’s 25th year have been spectacular and we revelled in the variety, depth, humanity and joy of the writing – we hope everyone else will too.”

The longlisted titles include:

The Women’s Prize for Fiction celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from throughout the world. The winner receives a cheque for £30,000 and a limited edition bronze known as a ‘Bessie’, created and donated by the artist Grizel Niven. Both are anonymously endowed.

The 2020 shortlist of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction will be announced on Wednesday 22 April, with the winner to be awarded on Wednesday 3 June. Find out more about the prize here.
