Roland Bisshop, a music specialist at our Carlton shop, highly recommends two new vinyl releases…

1. Unfold by The Necks
‘February saw the release of the latest offering from The Necks, whose genre-defying splendour is offered for the first time on vinyl only (download coupon included). Technological anachronists, rejoice! Unfold does just that, over four side-long tracks of skittering drums, tinkling piano, swirling organ and undulating bass. The Necks maintain their own sonic trajectory through free-jazz and post-rock territories to create a sublimely meditative soundscape.’

2. Mind of the Swarm by Buried Feather
‘Local garage psych-rockers Buried Feather’s sophomore LP Mind of the Swarm, a wonderful mess of fuzzed-out guitars, howling organ, agile bass and thundering drums, brimming with melodic hooks and motoric rhythms. One for the heads. Download coupon included.’

Want more vinyl? Declan Murphy, a music specialist at our St Kilda Shop, has four other recommendations…

1. Stranger Things: Volume 1 by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein (pictured below)
‘With this soundtrack to the thoroughly excellent Netflix series Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein have created a darkly compelling score that is as much in debt to 80’s influences as the show itself. John Carpenter would be proud.’

2. The Trials of Van Occupanther by Midlake (10th Anniversary Edition)
‘Finally available on vinyl is this pastoral pop masterpiece from the Texan misfits. One of the very best records of the noughties for my money and one they haven’t topped since.’

3. The Living Legend by The Baby Huey Story
‘Lost soul classic finally reissued on vinyl from a giant of a man with a stunning voice who sadly went largely unrecognized in his time. Produced by Curtis Mayfield no less.’

4. Elwan by Tinariwen
‘Out of North Mali, these African blues rockers have been mining gold from the desert sands for some time now. Their latest is no exception. Guest appearances by Kurt Vile and Mark Lanegan sweeten the deal.’

Finally, here are some forthcoming releases to look out for…
