Benjamin Law is our bestselling author this week, with his funny, poignant memoir about growing up in a Chinese-Australian family on the Sunshine Coast sitting at number one. The Family Law has just been adapted for the screen by SBS, into a six-part series. Having been lucky enough to view the first two episodes at a special screening last week, we can tell you it’s almost as good as the book…

Another bestselling Australian memoir this week is Magda Szubanski’s Reckoning, which has just arrived back in stock after going out of print over Christmas. Magda writes candidly and wryly about growing up in suburban Melbourne, coming to terms with her sexuality and learning the dark history of her family.

We’re also delighted to see Patricia Highsmith’s Carol being snapped up by so many readers. Our staff are loving the book (which has also been recently adapted for the screen) – our St Kilda shop manager Amy Vuleta says that she ‘fell in love with Patricia Highsmith’s writing and style’ while reading it, while our marketing manager Nina Kenwood simply says, ‘Oh boy, I loved it’.
