A moving Australian fiction debut has taken the number one spot on last week’s bestsellers list. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on years of interviews that author Heather Morris conducted with Holocaust survivor and Auschwitz-Birkenau tattooist Ludwig Sokolov.

Other bestselling books of last week include a twisty psychological thriller from A.J. Finn (The Woman in the Window), a beautiful and provocative new novel from Booker winner Julian Barnes (The Only Story) and Johann Hari’s fascinating exploration into western society’s treatment of depression and anxiety (Lost Connections).

We’re also delighted to see Sarah Krasnostein’s remarkable biography of trauma cleaner Sandra Pankhurst included here for another week. The Trauma Cleaner was a staff favourite last year (it was voted as one of our top 10 non-fiction books of 2017), and it recently took home two prizes at the 2018 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.
