Last week we hosted three big events to celebrate three brilliant new Australian books – all of which sit at the top of our bestsellers list.

The Things That Make Us shares the life of one of Australia’s great football stars, Nick Riewoldtl. Not for the Faint-hearted is the new memoir from former prime minister Kevin Rudd. And from broadcaster Richard Fidler and author Kári Gíslason – Saga Land blends mythology, travel writing and memoir in telling the stories of the first Viking families who settled in Iceland during the Middle Ages.

Other bestselling books from last week include new novels from powerhouse Australian authors Richard Flanagan and Alex Miller (First Person, The Passage of Love), an accessible, fascinating book about capitalism from economist Yanis Varoufakis (Talking to My Daughter About the Economy), and a funny, charming memoir from performer Em Rusciano (Try Hard).

Finally, we’re delighted to see this year’s winner of the Readings Prize for new Australian Fiction included on this list. Sam Carmody’s debut novel, The Windy Season, is a mystery, a family drama and an examination of toxic masculinity – all rolled into one gripping narrative.
