  10. Laugh Your Head Off: Funny Stories For All Kinds of Kids by Nine Fantastic Australian Authors!

Featuring in the Top 10 this week are the USA’s and UK’s answer to our own super-selling Andy Griffiths: Jeff Kinney with the tenth Diary of a Wimpy Kid (which is subtitled Old School) and David Walliams with his eighth novel, Grandpa’s Great Escape. All three of these children’s authors have been phenomenally successful in encouraging children to enjoy reading, mainly by making them laugh.

And if laughter is the key, number 10 on our list is also worth looking at because it features nine of Australia’s funniest writers for children including Andy – naturally!, Lollie Barr, whose The Adventures of Stunt Boy and his Amazing Wonder Dog Blindfold really tickled us last year, and Judith Rossell who had a Christmas bestseller last year with the excellent Withering-By-Sea.

Several of our staff were riveted by our number four, the new teen novel Illuminae, by Australian authors Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It looks like a brick but it’s not a slog at all, and ideally suited to teens who need a break from school texts – a really fast-paced story told in a unique way.
