Our top ten bestselling children’s and YA books of last week include four terrific Australian picture books – an original, charming new collaboration from Andrea Beaty and David Roberts (Ada Twist, Scientist); a brand-new adventure with intrepid traveller Mr Chicken from Leigh Hobbs (Mr Chicken Arriva a Roma); Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy’s gorgeous picture book adaptation of a Wominjeka (welcome) ceremony (Welcome to Country); and… the surprise picture book release from comedian Andy Lee, with illustrations from Heath McKenzie (Do Not Open This Book).

Other bestsellers include the first book in a new series from the creator of Captain Underpants (Dog Man), Sarah J. Maas’s fifth instalment of her Throne of Glass series for teen readers (Empire of Storms), and Peadar Ó Guilín’s terrifying horror/Irish folklore YA mash-up that gave so many of our booksellers nightmares (The Call).
