Aaron Blabey’s very funny book for beginner readers is our bestselling children’s book of last week.

The Bad Guys is one of the six books shortlisted for our Readings Children’s Book Prize, and here are five reasons why we love it. If your child has already devoured this one, we’re pleased to report that there’s a terrific follow-up adventure available for them to snaffle up next.

We’re also pleased to report two other books from our Readings Children’s Book Prize shortlist appear in last week’s bestsellers list for kids and teens: 88 Lime Street is a spooky story that transforms into a time slip for ages 8-12, and Run, Pip, Run is a tender and moving story of a plucky young girl for 9+. Don’t forget that you can buy a specially priced pack of the entire shortlist ($69.99 ).

And OzYA fans might be tempted by Shivaun Plozza’s debut novel, Frankie, which is also proving popular with young readers. Our reviewer Katherine Dretzke writes, “This is a great debut novel from a fantastic new Australian author. It has everything YA fiction needs to be captivating: mystery, tough women, annoyingly cute bad boys, sarcasm and humour.” Read her full review here.
