With the school holidays drawing to a close, it seems copies of Jane Godwin and Anna Walker’s gentle picture book, Starting School, is flying off our shelves. This book shares the experiences and feelings of five very different children as they begin at school for the first time.

Both of Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers’s imaginative, hilarious crayon stories are also proving popular this week. In the first book, Duncan’s crayons quit and write him letters of resignation – they’re ignored, overworked, one is even nude. Then, in the second book, the crayons want to come home again and send him postcards about their travels. Both these books are laugh-out-loud funny, for the kids and for you too!

Other bestsellers for kids include the new Friday Barnes adventure from R.A. Spratt (No Rules), a beautiful parable about kindness and love from award-winning author Gillian Mears (The Cat with the Coloured Tail), and a colourful postcard and sticker book from Melbourne agency The Jacky Winter Group (Greetings from Australia).
