An evocative collection of illustrated short stories from Shaun Tan tops our list of bestselling children’s books from last week. Tales from the Inner City is a companion to his earlier work, Tales from Outer Suburbia, and explores human’s relationship with animals – both real and imagined.

Two highly anticipated new releases also feature on this list. Louisiana’s Way Home is a standalone novel about brave and determined Louisiana, who readers first met in Kate DiCamillo’s critically acclaimed Raymie Nightingale. And A Map of Days is the fourth book in Ransom Riggs’ much-loved Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series.

We’re also so happy to see Samantha Wheeler’s new children’s novel, Everything I’ve Never Said, listed here. In her rave review of this book, Readings Kids shop manager Angela Crocombe writes: ‘This magnificent book will appeal to readers of Wonder by R.J. Palacio or Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, but will also be devoured by almost anyone with a heart. Do yourself a favour and read it immediately, but bring some tissues. Suitable for age 9 to adult.’
