Introducing The Garret, a new literary podcast

The Garret is a new Melbourne-based literary podcast that explores how the best of the best start, draft, complete and market their writing.

We’re pleased to be a supporter, alongside the State Library of Victoria, Swinburne University and Writers Victoria.

The Garret’s first episode features an interview with Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, who co-authored the bestselling YA sci-fi space opera trilogy, The Illuminae Files. The first book in the trilogy, Illuminae won both the 2016 Inky Award and Book of the Year for Older Children at the Australian Book Industry Awards. The second book, Gemina, has just been released last week.

You can listen to the episode below.

You can also find some exclusive behind-the-scenes videos of the podcast being recorded here.

The Garret have plenty more in store for season one. This season was recorded in the State Library of Victoria and features eight Victorian writers talking about their craft. These writers represent several genres, and the common thread is success: they are at the top of their fields.

Upcoming episodes include:

  • 10 November: Kerry Greenwood, author of the Phryne Fisher murder mysteries
  • 17 November: Andrew Rule, co-author of the Underbelly series
  • 24 November: John Marsden, author of the Tomorrow Series.

The next season will feature writers from across Australia, and will launch in 2017.

You can subscribe to The Garret for free on iTunes, as well as follow on Twitter and Facebook.
