The 2017 longlist for the International Dylan Thomas Prize has been announced, including a short story collection from Australian author Fiona McFarlane.

This Prize is run by Swansea University and is awarded to the best literary work in the English language written by an author under 40. The winning author will receive £30,000 (A$49,155).

• The Outside Lands by Hannah Kohler
• Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer
• Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
• What is Not Yours is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi
• The Fat Artist and Other Stories by Benjamin Hale
• Cain by Luke Kennard
• Cannibal by Safiya Sinclair
• Dog Run Moon by Callan Wink
• The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry

The shortlist will be revealed in March, with the winner to be announced on at a ceremony on Sunday 14 May. Find out more about the International Dylan Thomas Prize here.
