Indigenous Literacy Day falls on Wednesday 3 September this year and, as always, Readings is keen to showcase the incredible work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).
The ILF works directly with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Australia to increase literacy, by providing culturally relevant books in languages of their choice, as well as providing communities with the opportunity to write and illustrate their own books through a professional publishing program.
This year, Readings is supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in three ways:
- On Indigenous Literacy Day (Wednesday 3 September), 10% of all book sales made on the day at our Readings shops will be donated directly to the ILF.
- During the month of September, all donations made to The Readings Foundation in our shops, including for in-shop gift-wrapping, will be given to the ILF.
- For those who can’t make it into our shops, we are also running a donation-matching campaign online. Throughout September, Readings will match donations to the ILF made through Readings online, up to a total of $10,000. Make a donation here!
This is a great incentive to join Readings in supporting the ILF, which is one of our most-loved charities and a fantastic organisation that works to support positive outcomes for First Nations communities, foster access to Indigenous languages within those communities, and improve literacy outcomes for young Indigenous Australians.
