I’m not one who usuallyappreciates the world of theclassical vocalist, but withthis recording, NathalieStutzmann has managed tomake me sit back and reallylisten to the beauty and control of herinstrument. The repertoire on this disc is aselection of arias by Vivaldi, who preferredthe timbre of female contralti, for whom heaccorded a place of honour in his operas.The overall sound picture Stutzmannachieves here is immaculate. She not onlysings but conducts the period instrumentensemble Orfeo 55, who play brilliantly.Stutzmann’s voice is like rich dark chocolate– but unlike chocolate, it will not bedetrimental to your health if you overindulge. Highly recommended.
