Out of the three box sets in this collection, this one is the vocal set. Featuring extracts from Vivaldi’s Vespers, his Gloria, and highlights from L’Olimpiade this is beautiful peek into the work of Vivaldi and the voice. The performers are all very good, although the Concerto Italiano take the faster movements at simply terrifying tempos! Excitement plus is the reward, but whew! What a stunning ability to take things that fast and keep the ensemble tight as it rollicks along. The Gloria particularly is joyous and if you’re looking for a good recording as an introduction to the Baroque vocal style you can’t go past this box set.
