Unicorn Riders 1: Quinn’s Riddles by Aleesah Darlison

Sometimes you come across books that you know completely understand their audience, and the new Unicorn Riders series from Aleesah Darlison fits that description. These books follow the adventures of four girls who have been selected to ride their magical unicorns on quests to save the kingdom of Avamay.

In book one, Quinn’s Riddles, Prince Simon has been kidnapped and the girls must work together to solve a series of puzzles to find him. Luckily, Quinn is quite good at solving riddles, and with the help of her friends and her unicorn Ula, the Unicorn Riders might just be able to save the day.

There really is something magical about horse-riding books, and when the horses are actually magical, even better! These books are heaps of fun, and will instantly appeal to girls seven and up who love their horses. But what I especially liked about these books was the importance of the teamwork between the four characters. Willow, Ellabeth, Quinn and Krystal know just how to encourage each others’ strengths when the going gets tough, and leaves little doubt that there’s no hurdle these girls and their unicorns can’t jump.
