The Night Fairy: Lara Amy Schlitz & Angela Barrett

Oh my, this is such a sweet story; I was beguiled by this dear little fairy. When the fairyophiles in your life are ready to move on from Rainbow Magic this is a more than worthy successor.

Plucky little Flory has had her wings ruined by a bat and the natural world is a dangerous place when you are tiny and can’t fly, but this resourceful night fairy survives in the day world by lateral thinking and some feisty bravado.

This delightfully lyrical story would be perfect for reading aloud, but those seven and up would enjoy reading it themselves. Angela Barrett’s illustrations delicately capture and enhance the ethereal world of Flory and her friends and foes of the garden. All fairyness aside, it’s also a page-turning adventure, after which Isobel Carmody’s Little Fur series could be another natural progression.
