The Burning Wire: Jeffery Deaver

The imaginative premise of Jeffery Deaver’s The Burning Wire is somewhat terrifying and bleakly plausible. The New York electricity grid is attacked with horrific results – high-voltage arcs destroy a city bus, innocent citizens are electrocuted and set on fire in their homes. Fundamentalist terrorists are immediately blamed, but Lincoln Rhyme isn’t sure that’s the case. Regular readers will know I’m not normally a big fan of slick, commercial thrillers like this, but The Burning Wire is a ripper, with future Hollywood blockbuster written all over it.
