Tchaikovsky Symphonies inspire a sense of Romanticism that cannot be found anywhere else. Tchaikovsky being performed by Russians is something else. Valery Gergiev leads the Mariinsky Orchestra in the Symphonies Nos 4, 5 & 6 from the Salle Pleyel in Paris. There is warmth in the sound with long musical lines as befits the extended melodic ideas. This is just another day at work for the orchestra, but really, it doesn’t matter because they do their work so well.
