Reverie by Joe Henry

I came to the artist Joe Henry with the release of 2003’s Tiny Voices. I had no idea who he was; I just heard he was a much sought after producer of some great artists like Solomon Bourke, Aimee Mann, Allen Toussaint and Betty Lavette. Reverie is the fourth release on the Anti label for Joe Henry. The album was recorded earlier this year in Henry’s Basement studio with his regular crew of musicians with guest artists Marc Ribot and Lisa Hannigan. It has a rustic old-time feel which is in keeping with his recent albums. Linford Detweiler of Over the Rhine was also produced by Joe Henry, and Detweiler’s influence is apparent on this record, particularly on the track Piano Furnace. Reverie will continue to enchant Joe Henry devotees and gain new converts.
