Release Me by Lyle Lovett

The old comfortable shoe returns with an album primarily made up of covers. Originally labelled a country singer, Lyle Lovett inhabits a far wider genre, one that includes Jesse Winchester and Townes Van Zandt and other storytellers, interpreters and troubadours. His style is laconic but at the same time his easy rambling tone gives you time to listen and become a part of the story. He inhabits others’ songs as though they are his own and also, unlike so many before him, gives them a twist which, if you didn’t know them, you would swear he wrote himself. Highlight is the beautiful ‘Dress of Laces’ but just press play and enjoy the journey.
