The latest recording fromABC Classics is a celebrationof our local internationallyrenowned composer,the extraordinaryRichard Mills. Featuring theMelbourne Symphony Orchestra conductedby Mills, two CDs of orchestral works aregiven pride of place. Quirky in spots, lyricalin others, it is a terrific example of what’shappening in Australian contemporary musictoday. And if those words scare you, don’t bescared – it’s not just listenable, it’s engagingand although modern, tuneful, with strongharmonic movement and the full gambit oforchestral colours engaged. I’m biased andthink the MSO are awesome; so I will just saythat they continue to be fabulous here.
