Love at the Bottom of the Sea by The Magnetic Fields

This happily feels like an album full of short stories, each of which has been scored to match the tale itself rather than create a fifteen-track recording that begins to sound the same. The excellent Magnetic Fields – one of whose members is author Daniel Handler – have released another indie-pop delight to make you laugh and sigh and everything in between. Back to adding synthesisers to their acoustic sound for the first time in years, and with tracks titled I’d Go Anywhere With Hugh and All She Cares About is Mariachi, Love at the Bottom of the Sea is something to sing to your friends when they’re down, or up, or just happen to be nearby.
