I Want To Play Music Too: Charlie And Lola: Lauren Child

Now I am the first to admit that the hugely-popular Charlie and Lola need little help to sell their books. But I Want To Play Music Too is so outstandingly awesome I feel duty-bound to tell you about it.

Charlie and his friend Marv have been chosen to play a music piece in the school assembly, and are practising the clarinet and keyboards like mad. Lola, of course, wants to join in the rehearsal with her own instruments, real and made-up. When Marv falls sick of the day of the assembly, Lola comes to the rescue with her cardboard box of music mayhem.

Each page has a sound-button (my favourite sounds are the milk bottles and the bleepy outer-space sounds), and there are also stickers, stencils and instructions on making musical instruments from everyday household objects. This is one of those books where the bells-and-whistles serve only to enhance the already-great storyline and characters.
