The main theme from the Symphony in D minor by Cesar Franck always sends shivers up my spine. It’s so sad and yet so uplifting at the same time. A work that sometimes fall betweens the cracks this is well worth getting to know. In this album you’ve got the Symphony followed by the Variations symphoniques for piano and orchestra with the fantastic Pascal Roge on piano. Roge has a finesse in his performances that is unique. Finally there is the Bartok Rhapsody for piano and orchestra which finishes pensively with the French horn and piano saying farewell.
