Douglas by G.N. Hargreaves

Douglas is a pretty amazing dog – he can do anything. He collects stamps, plays chess and the tuba, goes skiing and takes his shiny red car for a spin when he needs to get out. There’s not a thing Douglas can’t do… well, except wag his tail.

Try as he might, Douglas just can’t manage even the smallest of wiggles. Because, of course, a dog can only wag his tail when he’s happy, and even though Douglas can do all these amazing things, he isn’t exactly happy. When Basil the friendly bird spies Douglas crying, he’s determined to help. And so the two set out have some fun for a change!

Douglas comes from the pen of G.N. Hargreaves, son of Roger Hargreaves who created the classic Mr Men series, and in this case the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree. The illustrations have that same bright, simple style that kids will love, and as a deal-breaker the book also comes with stickers. The text is slightly longer than most picture books, so this is the perfect next step for young readers who aren’t quite ready for chapter books.
