With superb control and clarity of tone that is envied by all singers, the Theatre of Voices accompanied by Ars Nova Copenhagen open The Little Match Girl Passion by David Lang.

A new working of the traditional Hans Christian Andersen story, it takes the inspiration of Bach’s St Matthew Passion and interweaves the ideas musically, with the libretto and story. It has a lyricism that is often missed when English is used as the language of choice, however it is used to great effect here. For anyone who likes Bach, choral music or contemporary works, this is a must-have.
