Couleur Sur Paris by Nouvelle Vague

Couleur Sur Paris (Colours on Paris) is France’s Nouvelle Vague’s superb fourth album. Its title is based on a famous postcard collection and Oberkampf’s 1981 punk anthem, and reflects the exciting yet angsty period. While their previous albums have had a leaning towards the UK and US, this album includes some of France’s top artists of today such as Camille, Soko, Vanessa Paradis and Melanie Pain covering the best of the country’s pop hits of the post-punk era of the 80s.

Stand out tunes are Camille’s funky version of TC Matic’s ironic political underground hit of 1983 ‘Putain Putain’ (which my school girl French tells me means something naughty!), Melanie Pain’s sultry version of Maris-France’s iconic 1977’s hit melancholic song ‘Déréglée’ and Coralie Clement’s ‘Je Suis Déjà Parti’ (I’ve already left).

This is a must have album for this summer’s collection!
