2010 is the bicentenary year of Chopin’s birth and no doubt many discs and compilations will be issued to mark the occasion, but if they are all as good as this recording of the complete waltzes, then Chopin devotees will be happy indeed.

Fliter breathes new life and vibrancy into these popular gems – the melodic line is keenly observed and the rubato effects are discreet. This recording of waltzes, while not replacing the great ones of Lipatti, Rubinstein and Ashkenazy, it is able to sit alongside them comfortably.
