Butcher Holler: A Tribute To Loretta Lynn: Eileen Jewell

Butcher Holler is a coal mining community in Kentucky, where Loretta Lynn grew up in the 1940s. The contemporary country singer Eileen Jewell pays tribute to Lynn on this new album.

Jewell has been greatly influenced by Lynn’s singing style; but also by Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith. Lynn was ahead of her time, writing all her own songs and taking on some risqué subjects. The sound on this record is authentic to Lynn’s era, just as Jewell had been with her last few records. This is a well conceived-tribute.
