Over the last few months, a number of discs have appeared featuring Australian artists, for which the recording industry must be complimented. It is wonderful to have Emma Mathews recorded in her prime. And now, to add to the list of local artists, Decca have at long last released Bruce Martin’s recordings on disc.

A long-time favourite of the Australian Opera, this two-disc set shows that he was a very versatile artist – singing opera, oratorio, lieder and popular song all with confidence and musical integrity. His Mozart and Wagner command attention, as does the grandeur he brings to They Call Wind Maria. There is something profound and very satisfying about the bass-baritone voice and Bruce Martin’s is no exception.
