The ever favourite Brahms returns again in another box set. This time though this 7 CD set features the brilliant understated, musicianship of the 1970 Concertgebouw under conductor Bernard Haitink. Although recorded many years ago, the quality is gorgeous. Every instrument is clear and the intent of each musical idea, never over done, is gentle and often heart wrenching in emotion. This would be a terrific set for someone who is interested in learning more about Brahms’ orchestral works, while looking for good musicality and sound quality.
