Arvo Part: Taula Rasa

Over the last couple of decades, the solitary Estonian mystic composer Arvo Part has laboured away, quietly producing some of the most starkly beautiful music in modern - well, to be honest - any times. By way of a seventy-fifth birthday celebration, his record label and music publisher have collaborated on this gorgeous edition of Tabula Raasa, the disc that made his name in 1984. All the works are widely loved these days: Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, Tabula Rasa and Fratres, the latter in versions for piano and violin with Gidon Kremer and Keith Jarrett, and for 12 cellists. The disc comes in a 208-page, full-size hardback book, with violin and piano scores, and facsimiles of Part’s original manuscripts, eessages, photos and discography. Whether you read music or not, this is truly a desirable object.
