My Little River by Jess Ribeiro and the Bone Collectors

Originally self-released in May 2012, this much-sought-after album received a ‘proper’ release in December. ABC Radio National deemed it to be their prestigious album of the year, and it is a cracking debut.

Jess Ribeiro and the Bone Collectors formed in Darwin, where they were unearthed by triple j, and now happily reside in Melbourne. Ribeiro’s voice is somewhere between Jolie Holland (Be Good Tanyas) and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Starr), and musically much more like the former. I suspect very good things are in store for both her and her band – this really is a beautiful and fragile debut.
