J. S. Bach: Goldberg Variations

If you thought you there were enough Goldbergs or that Gould, Tureck or Schiff couldn’t be matched, think again! The debut CD of this young American pianist has caused a sensation in the US, for the uplifting, serene performance, magical recording quality and the piano itself: this is the first recording of the ‘peace piano’. Briefly: it was, inexplicably, the only surviving remnant of the WWII bombing that destroyed a Hull opera house, then fell into disrepair for decades before being restored by the UN for the opening of the Winter Garden built on the Twin Towers site, where it now resides. That said, this recording needs no warm’n’fuzzy back-story: it’s a keeper!
