Brother Sinner & The Whale by Kelly Joe Phelps

Washington-based guitarist and singer-songwriter, Kelly Joe Phelps’s style is an impressive fusion of blues, folk, jazz, country and gospel, and he has played alongside the likes of Martin Simpson and the late Townes Van Zandt.

On his new album, Brother Sinner and the Whale, we find Phelps returning to his spiritual roots on a record that is lyrically poetic, and inspired in part by the Book of Jonah.

Brother Sinner and the Whale shows off his extremely skilled, dexterous guitar playing (particularly his mastery of flat-picking) and, being his tenth solo studio release, is definitely up to the standard of his fabulous back catalogue.
