Despite recording under the moniker of Sun Kil Moon, this release resoundingly belongs to singer/songwriter Mark Kozelek. With vocals reminiscent of Nick Drake and songs born of simplicity and warmth, Kozelek gives us an early entry for album of the year. Nothing overstated or convoluted, just guitar, drums, bass and voice (with occasional piano). Beautiful songs, simply and effectively played and sung. A bonus disc of four alternate takes makes a nice little extra. Make no mistake, an amazing listen.
