Acid Tongue: Jenny Lewis

Rilo Kiley front woman Jenny Lewis’ follow-up to her solo debut Rabbit Fur Coat may surprise a few people. Despite being recorded in just three weeks, it is a lot fuller than its sparsely beautiful predecessor. While Rabbit Fur Coat’s mini-narratives, piano ballads and country influences are still present, they are now joined by a bar-band vibe and even a hint of mid-period Fleetwood Mac.

Lewis’s soulful, expressive voice is still her greatest strength, her phrasing as intelligent and emotive as ever and her lyrics still betray a fondness for the seedy underbelly of the States.
